Eat local, drink local: A pledge I hope to keep

This is a Hubbox Burger. An award-winning meat patty that makes me cry with happiness.

I, Matthew Sylvester, do hereby make a pledge.  I pledge that, when eating out with friends and family, where ever possible I shall do so in places that are owned and run by people local to Exeter, and/or which create meals and serve drinks that have been made from local produce or by local breweries.

Local shall, in this case, be taken to mean Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. However, extra patronage and higher review scores shall be given to those that support Devonian producers and brewers over those from Cornwall and Somerset.

I do this because I am sick and tired of seeing pubs, restaurants and eateries ignoring the amazing products that are on our doorstep, choosing instead to serve imported craft beers at prices which, in the crude vernacular,  fucking take the piss, whilst funnelling money away from our community.

All that I ask, dear friends, is that you join me in this voyage of discovery. I appreciate that it might not interest some, and that by doing this, it might make finding a suitable place both difficult and slightly more expensive, but this is something I truly believe to be worth doing.

With this in mind, I shall be gracing the following establishments.

Harry’s Grillbar, Exeter Hubbox (For their burgers only, currently they are bringing in most of their booze from afar, although they do now have a light ale brewed down in Cornwall specifically for them. Not available in a pint however, which is annoying), Samuel Jones (owned by St. Austell Brewery), Darts Farm, Warrens, Ivor Dewdney,  the Oggy Oggy Oggy Pasty Company. And any others that I happen to discover!

  1. Nice one. Hub box is amazing and those Harbour brews from Cornwall are top notch.. Also massive shouts to Samuel Jones for the quality of food and service. Check out the Big Job Double IPA you can get in there. Seriously hefty stuff.
