My eldest is doing a project on World War II. She has to stand in front of the class and give a talk. Needless to say she’s already better at using PowerPoint than I ever was.
As part of this presentation she’s doing an imaginary diary, written by an evacuee. She then decided that she would write a poem as part of this. It’s her first ever poem, and she’s only 10. Colour me damn impressed!
Surrounded by meadows of snowdrops and lavender, we wonder by the lake.
Dipping our toes into the glistening locks of liquid hair
we gaze up at the horizon.
“Oh, Lord,” we chant “please help our family and friends!”
And as the morning of summer blooms into life,
The sun awakes from its slumber and waves behind his glowing flames; showing us the way.
The way to happiness!
