That’s a well-known phrase from the military. Simply put, soldiers often find themselves being rushed from point-to-point, and then having to sit around on their arses waiting for something to happy.
There was a frantic period of making sure we had everything lined up correctly in order to ensure we dealt with incoming submissions correctly. Then … nothing. We started to have submissions come in, we issued the odd reply, even the odd rejection, but on the whole there’s nothing to actually do until the submissions window is over.
Then, there’s going to be another hectic period where we read, comment, accept/reject, issue contracts, edit, format, get covers designed and then decide on a firm publishing date…
